Australia’s 13 natural wonders

We may not have ‘won’, but the Blue Mountains has enjoyed the prestige of being nominated as one of Australia’s ‘13 natural
wonders‘ in the search for the ‘New 7 Wonders of Nature’ campaign.
Australians were recently asked to nominate their favourite destinations, and the Blue Mountains, renowned for the colourful
haze that lingers over its peaks, was named alongside such iconic landmarks as Uluru (NT) and the Great Barrier Reef (QLD).
And it was those two destinations that were chosen as Australia’s ultimate representatives in the second phase of the
New7Wonders of Nature campaign, alongside 261 other natural iconic landscapes of the world.
“I am delighted to see not one but two Australian sites in with a chance of featuring among the new natural seven wonders of
the world,” Geoff Buckley, Managing Director, Tourism Australia said.
Other sites in contention from around the world include the Galapagos Islands, Zimbabwe’s Victoria Falls, and Scotland’s Loch
Ness.
